Representative Shields appointed to Multnomah County Public Safety Coordinating Council
Portland, Oregon - June 7, 2007 - State Representative Chip Shields (D-N/NE Portland) has accepted a unanimous nomination to serve on the Multnomah County Local Public Safety Coordinating Council.
The Councils were established by the Oregon Legislature to plan for the use of state and local resources to manage local offenders and to coordinate criminal justice policy.
"I'm honored to receive an invitation to serve on the Council," Rep. Shields said. "I look forward to working with law enforccement, elected officials and community members to increase public safety in North and Northeast Portland and all of Multnomah County."
Rep. Shields will begin active participation following the adjournment of the 2007 Oregon legislative session this summer.
In January, Shields was appointed Chair of the Subcommittee of Public Safety of the Joint Ways & Means Committee in the Oregon House of Representatives. The committee oversees the budgets for state-funded public safety programs and agencies. Prior to joining the legislature, Shields was the founder and former executive director of Better People-- a living-wage employment and counseling program for former offenders.
